However, there could be other reasons unrelated to illness. For example, if you are forced to smoke secondarily, with high humidity or sudden changes in temperature.

  • Very dry or cool ambience
  • air conditioning
  • Strong smells
  • Allergic reaction
  • Dusty rooms
  • Respiratory problems from a cold or flu
  • A consequence of diseases with gastric reflux

Parents often desperately seek relief from their dry cough. Some prefer medication, others try natural remedies, but all want to alleviate their pupil’s discomfort.

Natural remedies to relieve dry cough in children

There are several home remedies that can be used to relieve symptoms of coughing. The care also gives children comfort and security so that they feel better.

Drink plenty of fluids

Drinking is essential for respiratory diseases. If you offer your child enough water several times a day , the mucous membranes are more easily kept moist.

The water should be at room temperature to best calm the cough.

Steam baths

Steam baths can also help your child. For the best result, your pupil should inhale the steam for about 20 minutes. This will help soothe irritation and moisturize the airways.

Be careful, however, that the temperature is not too high, as this could cause burns!

Remember that the mucous membranes are also skin. So, just like our normal skin, it should be treated at room temperature.

Atomizer

Place an atomizer in the nursery and let it run for a few minutes while your child is in another room. The room should ideally have a warm and humid ambience.

You can also add eucalyptus or bay leaf essential oil. The aroma helps clear the airways so your child can relax while sleeping.

Honey with lemon

A teaspoon of honey with a few drops of lemon before bed and after waking up is also helpful for relieving dry coughs.

Because of the horizontal position we take while sleeping, the cough usually worsens at night. That is why you could sometimes think that you cannot breathe or that the mucous membranes are even more irritated.

Lemon and honey are popular natural remedies that provide short-term relief.

ingredients

  • 1 cup of honey (336 gr)
  • 1/2 cup of water (125 ml)
  • 1 lemon

application

  • First put the honey in a saucepan and heat it very lightly. Namely, it loses its medicinal properties when it cooks!
  • Then pour the water into a container and add the previously washed lemon.
  • Cook the lemon for 3 minutes or until tender.
  • Then take the lemon off the stove, strain off the water and let it cool down a bit. Then cut them into slices and remove the seeds.
  • Add the lemon wedges to the honey and heat them together on a low flame for an hour.
  • Then take the mixture off the stove and remove the lemon wedges.
  • Finally, let everything cool down and put it in a sterile container for storage.

This “cough syrup” can be taken by children and adults. Children can take half a teaspoon three times a day.

Adults can eat a spoon as often as they see fit.

If the cough doesn’t get better after a few days, it is imperative that you take your child  to the doctor !
